Lithium-ion battery fire recalls in the US
8 CPSC recall notices in the last 90 days in which a lithium-ion battery, battery pack or charging circuit could catch fire, overheat or explode, about 879,239 units. Every row links to the regulator's own notice.
This page groups by failure mode, not by product category: importers of power banks, rechargeable hand warmers and battery packs buy from different factories but face the same failure. Button and coin cell ingestion recalls (Reese's Law) are a separate hazard and are tracked in this guide.

If you import any of these product types
- Match the model, not the headline. CPSC names the model or item number in the notice body. Check it against your purchase orders and your live listings — one importer can carry five similar SKUs.
- Stop selling before you are named. The remedy (refund or replacement) is the seller's obligation even when the factory is overseas; a recall that names your brand is far more expensive than a quiet delisting.
- 24 hours to report a defect. Under Section 15(b) of the CPSA, once you have information that a product fails to meet a consumer product safety rule or contains a defect that could create a substantial risk, the clock starts. What counts as information.
- Ask for the cell, not just the pack. For the next purchase order, request the UN 38.3 test summary, the cell manufacturer and model, and the BMS overcharge cut-off — the recalls above are almost all cell or charging-circuit failures, not assembly faults.
Have these checked against your own SKUs
The paid brief tracks your categories and brands, adds a recommendation per notice, and alerts you between weekly briefs. $49/month — or read a real sample first.
Method: rule-based filter over the public CPSC feed, rebuilt hourly — a notice is listed when the product wording names a lithium battery or a battery-powered product type and the stated hazard is fire, burn, overheating, ignition, explosion or smoke. It is indicative, not exhaustive; the official record is always the CPSC notice. Not legal advice.
